Daigle & Houghton was formed in 1951 by Leo Daigle, Tom Houghton Sr., and Tomís two sons, Jack and Tom Jr. to sell Massey-Harris farm equipment. Leoís son, John, joined the business in 1956 and by 1959, the decision was made to get out of the farm equipment business and concentrate on truck sales. By 1964, the Daigleís had bought out the Houghtonís interest in the company and were well on their way to becoming the only International truck dealer in Northern Maine.
In 1984, two of Johnís sons joined him in the family business. Gary and Greg returned to Fort Kent and established themselves into what would become a formidable business. The Western Star Trucks franchise joined the Navistar International line in 1985 which fueled the need for more space at the current location. An 8,000 square foot addition was completed in 1987 which added 8 new service bays. To help service our customersí needs in northern Maine, an agreement was reached with DBJ McGuire in Houlton to become an associate dealer for International trucks & services.
1997 would officially bring our goal of expanding to central Maine a reality. Western Star Truck franchise for central Maine was awarded to Daigle & Houghton and the search for a suitable location began immediately. The final site selected was a parcel of land across the street from Dysartís truck stop on Coldbrook Road in Hermon. Hermon is located just outside of Bangor, exit 180 on I-95. Construction of the 25,000 square foot building was completed in 1998 and we officially opened for business in December of that year. With the opening of the new location, the company added 18 employees to the payroll bringing our total number of employees to 51.
